If
you are planning on installing network or IP cameras, Connexed
provides an efficient way to manage and store their recordings
that is not broadband capacity dependent. This is a major
advantage when using cameras with high resolution megapixel,
high frame rates or high levels of motion.
How
It Works
Video
cameras are set up around the facility where activity is common.
This can be by the pro shop, entrances, or driving range. A
Connexed appliance is placed in the facility to receive the
recordings from the cameras and transfer them over the internet
to secure offsite storage.
With virtually any computer,
an authorized user can access their account to view archived
recordings as well as live viewing of the cameras. In the event
of a power outage or non-functioning camera at the club an email
notification is sent to any selected user.
How
It's Setup
You
select the locations in the facility you want monitored. The
cameras, often wireless, are mounted in place. The appliance and
a router are then connected with 110 VAC power and Ethernet over
a DSL or cable modem line. The appliance comes pre-configured so
there is no software to install or programming.
Operating
the System
Once
the system is running each user is given their User ID and
password. Different users can have different levels of access if
desired. Using a standard web browser like Internet Explorer or
Firefox, the user logs into their secure account on the Connexed
website.
Upon accessing the account you are able to view
the live cameras to see what is happening on-site at that time.
Also accessible on the site is the Video Vault that shows a
graphical history of movement over time.
If you see the
bar graph showing activity at a time that warrants more
investigation, you click on the activity bar and the recordings
are loaded onto your standard media player (e.g. Windows Media
Player, RealPlayer, Quicktime, etc.). You can then view the
recordings to see what was happening at that time and if
necessary email the recordings to another party.
How
Much Does It Cost?
The
Connexed system is setup as Software as a Service (SaaS) which
means a monthly subscription covers the storage, lifetime
warranty of the appliance, any software upgrades and free
entry-level cameras. For most systems the appliance is supplied
at no charge and the subscription runs about $1/day per camera
for a three year contract, which includes 30 days of storage.
Additional storage is just $5/mo per camera for each additional
30 days.
Other
Benefits Of The System
In
addition to the simplicity of setting up and using the system,
other features include:
1. The Connexed Appliance only
makes an outbound Internet connection, it does not accept any
inbound connections (no NAT in your router or holes in your
firewall) which maintains your network security.
2. Your
video recordings are stored safely off-site on fully redundant
storage arrays in world class collocation facilities staffed
24/7. Your video system is already Disaster Recovery compliant.
3. The Connexed Service runs on the Internet Backbone (over
1gbps per port). You will view your recorded video at your
location's download speed, not each locations' broadband upload
speed.
4. No software is necessary to install so you can
view your recordings from virtually any computer with Internet
access
