How much
storage to buy with your Video Surveillance system? Does SARBOX
require you to keep recordings for 12months? How much storage are
you going to buy for each location, each with a different number
of cameras? Will direct attach storage be enough? Do you need a
NAS? A SAN?
Rather than worry about how much storage to
buy, why not let Connexed store all your video surveillance video
in fully redundant storage arrays in world class collocation
facilities? It's cheap, easy, and will allow you to centrally
store all your locations' video in one location. Want to host it
yourself? We have a solution for that too.
How
It Works
Cameras
at each location provide a video feed to a Connexed Appliance at
each location on the LAN. The Connexed Appliance uploads the
video to the Connexed Network Operations Center over the
Internet.
With any standard browser, an authorized user
can access their account at www.connexed.net to view archived
recordings as well as live viewing of the cameras. In the event
of a power outage or non-functioning camera, an email
notification is sent to any selected user.
If you want to
host your own back end, we can license you a “NOC-in-a-box”
to run at your location instead.
How
It's Setup
Each
location gets a Connexed Appliance and however many network
cameras you choose. The Connexed Appliance ships DHCP enabled and
needs no holes in your firewall nor any port-forwarding in your
router to work -- just add power and Ethernet and it comes right
up The Connexed Appliance then gets video from the cameras on
your network and makes an OUTbound (no inbound connection
required) to the Connexed Network Operations Center, where the
video is securely stored offsite on a fully redundant storage
system.
Operating
the System
Once
the system is running each user is given their User ID and
password. Different users can have different levels of access if
desired. Using a standard web browser like IE, Safari or Firefox,
the user logs into their secure account on the Connexed
website.
Upon accessing the account the user is able to
view the live cameras to see what is happening on-site at that
time. Also accessible on the site is the Video Vault that shows a
graphical history of movement over time and direct access to
those recordings.
If you see the bar graph showing
activity at a time that warrants more investigation, you click on
the activity bar and the recordings are loaded onto your standard
media player (e.g. Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, Quicktime,
etc.). You can then view the recordings to see what was happening
at that time and if necessary email the recordings to another
party.
How
Much Does It Cost?
The
Connexed system is setup as Software as a Service (SaaS) which
means a monthly subscription covers the storage, lifetime
warranty of the appliance, any software upgrades and free
entry-level cameras. For most systems the appliance is supplied
at no charge and the subscription runs about $1/day per camera
for a three year contract, which includes 30 days of storage.
Additional storage is just $5/mo per camera for each additional
30 days.
Other
Benefits Of The System
In
addition to the simplicity of setting up and using the system,
other features include:
1. The Connexed Appliance only
makes an outbound Internet connection, it does not accept any
inbound connections (no NAT in your router or holes in your
firewall) which maintains your network security.
2. Your video
recordings are stored safely off-site on fully redundant storage
arrays in world class collocation facilities staffed 24/7. Your
video system is already Disaster Recovery compliant.
3. The
Connexed Service runs on the Internet Backbone (over 1gbps per
port). You will view your recorded video at your location's
download speed, not each locations' broadband upload speed.
4.
No software is necessary to install so you can view your
recordings from virtually any computer with Internet access
